Freshman report: Several Alabama newcomers could make their debut in Week 2

Nine members of Alabama’s 2025 recruiting class made their Crimson Tide debuts during last week’s opener at Florida State. For the most part, the newcomers had a quiet afternoon, as defensive lineman London Simmons and tight end Kaleb Edwards were the only two who recorded more than 20 total snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. 

Alabama’s true freshmen should get more of an opportunity this week, as the Tide is a five-touchdown favorite over Louisiana-Monroe. Here’s a full breakdown of Alabama’s 2025 class, including what to expect from each freshman this week. 

London Simmons, defensive tackle

Week 1 snaps: D-line (22), FG/XP block (1)

Simmons saw extended playing time off the bench, as Alabama was without starter Tim Keenan III due to injury. The three-star Mississippi native recorded two tackles, including a solo stop, while earning a 66.0 defensive grade from PFF. 

What to expect in Week 2: Simmons should see even more of the field following Jeremiah Beamon’s season-ending injury in practice this week. Beamon started in place of Keenan during the season opener. With both players out this week, Simmons will likely be Alabama’s No. 2 option behind Edric Hill at the nose guard position.
