Over the last two weeks, Alabama football has blown out ULM and Wisconsin in the wake of the egregious Florida State loss, and head coach Kalen DeBoer had an opportunity to reflect on how the last three weeks have gone for the Crimson Tide.
Despite losing the season opener in ugly fashion, DeBoer believes the loss has forced Alabama to stick together and grow closer as a team.
“I’m just really proud of our guys and the way they’ve handled any outside noise,” DeBoer said during an appearance at the Monday Morning Quarterback Club in Birmingham, Alabama. “They’ve understood that it doesn’t mean anything. It really matters what we think and what we do, and they’ve really channeled their focus, channeled their energy in the right things. And that’s their preparation. It’s probably added a little fuel to a fire in some cases for individuals, but I think as a team as a whole, they’ve really been forced to stick together on another level. I hope that the edge that it’s created the last couple of weeks stays. It needs to. I’m going to keep reminding them of that, and it’s just let to a lot of positive things in our football team. You hate to go through it, but right now, the adversity, we’re better off because of it.”
The loss has given the Crimson Tide all the fuel the players and coaches need to build a roaring internal fire, but time will tell if that fire is temporary or eternal.
Alabama is currently in its first bye week of the season. After the bye, Alabama will begin SEC play against No. 5 Georgia in Athens.
