Alabama football’s veteran offensive guard, Jaeden Roberts did not play against Vanderbilt despite the Crimson Tide rotating its offensive line throughout the game.

Kalen DeBoer was asked about why the veteran did not play on Monday.

“It’s competitive right now at those positions,” DeBoer told reporters. “It’s more than just his. And guys are competing in practice and that’s to me a big part of what you got to do. The comeback for him has been progressing. And I think that’s why you probably feel the vibe from Coach Grubb and the words he said. But he’s got to just keep doing it. And that’s what we ask of every guy and some of these guys have gotten chances to get on the football field and taking advantage of it. That’s made it harder for others who maybe have had roles that were assumed, but it’s competitive. And Jaeden, love Jaeden, what a great, great kid and got a lot of potential.”

Alabama football’s offensive coordinator was also asked about Roberts’ absence. He discussed Roberts’ likely getting more snaps in the upcoming game.

“Jaeden’s still working his way back onto the field,” Grubb said. “Last week, I thought was a big step for him. He’s progressing nicely in practice and things like that. So, really expect him to be able to make a contribution this week.”

Roberts was expected to start at right guard for Alabama to start the season before he suffered a concussion in fall camp.
