Alabama DC tells what makes explosive Auburn wide receiver duo dangerous

Alabama is set to face the Auburn Tigers in the Iron Bowl on Saturday, and it’s going to be a tough test for the Tide as it faces a 5-6 Auburn team with nothing to lose that has been playing three quarterbacks and has a lethal wide receiver duo.

Wide receivers Cam Coleman and Eric Singleton have been the stars on an underperforming team. Together, the duo has recorded 1,190 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 107 catches.

Coleman has been a dominant pass-catcher in contested scenarios, often coming down with balls that looked like they never should have been caught. Meanwhile, Singleton has lethal speed that allows him to elude defensive backs.

The duo has the potential to create a major issue for the Crimson Tide’s defense on Saturday. Tide defensive coordinator Kane Wommack spoke on Monday about what he’s seen from the two and how the defense can work to stop them.

“I think [Auburn offensive coordinator Derrick Nix] is doing a really good job of getting those guys the ball,” Wommack said. “You notice an effort to get them the ball, specifically in terms of their game plan and just in terms of their targets. And those guys are playmakers, I mean, they do a really nice job when the ball’s in the air, they do a nice job in the one-on-ones. They find creative ways to get them out in space. Formationally, they’re doing some things to create a little more space in the passing game and get easy access throws, and then let those guys go to work. So, both of those guys present challenges; they’re different receivers, yet at the same time, when they have the ball in their hands, they’re both very explosive and can create yards after the catch. So, that’s something that we’ve got to do a great job of mixing it up enough. And then, like all SEC games, it’s a physicality war, it’s limiting explosives and certainly limiting yards after contact, which is going to be critical for both of those guys.”

This wide receiver duo is definitely one of the most dangerous that Alabama will have faced all season, so it will be a tough challenge for the defense, as it has to work on stopping them, but also facing multiple quarterbacks.

Wommack will need to ensure that the defense is ready to face a dangerous offense, and one that has nothing to lose as it prepares to face its rival. On the other hand, this game will determine if the Tide makes it to the SEC Championship game.
