Alabama football continues to monitor Josh Cuevas, and it is unclear if the tight end will be available Saturday for the annual Iron Bowl game against Auburn.

If Cuevas were to miss Saturday’s game, two Alabama tight ends in particular will be leaned on as first options, according to Alabama’s offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb. Those two options appear to be Jay Lindsey and Kaleb Edwards.

The Alabama OC shared the Tide put a focus on involving these two against Eastern Illinois while Cuevas was out.

“I thought Jay Lindsay showed up, had a little bit of physicality in the run game,” Grubb told reporters on Monday. “Kaleb got kinda extended into some roles and some spots that he hadn’t normally done when Josh was around. That was great to see him try to navigate that a little bit. Had a nice catch on the sideline there from Keelon and really was kind of focusing on those two guys and see what their ability was gonna be in the game.”

Alabama football’s head coach Kalen DeBoer provided some more details on this focus against Eastern Illinois during his Monday press conference.

“That was certainly intentional with getting some guys some action out there, even some of the way just I think coach Grubb called the game, just making sure that we got some reps,” DeBoer told reporters. “You’ve seen Kaleb out there all season long. So, it’s a combination of guys that you’re really focused on as much as anything, and I thought Marshall (Pritchett) did a nice job, Brody (Dalton) did a nice job. Jay (Lindsey) did a nice job as well in their roles, just getting them more snaps. We get better with reps. It doesn’t matter who we are.”
