Coosa Christian secured the 2025 Class 2A State Championship in the final seconds of the game when Mac Long broke free for 20 yards to pull ahead 29-22 over Lanett with 22 seconds left in the game.
The win gave Coosa Christian its first state championship in school history. It is Propst’s eighth championship. Kylen Johnson earned the MVP Award.
The Conquerors trailed Lanett 22-14 with 5:30 left in the game. Coosa Christian’s Johnson tied the game up with 3:20 left in the game with a four-yard rushing touchdown. Coosa forced a Lanett punt on the following drive, setting up Long’s game-winning touchdown.
Lanett made a great effort at attempting to tie this one again late with a Fred Boughton 27-yard rush before he stepped out of bounds with one second left. Coosa Christian batted the ball down on the following play to secure the win.
Long finished the game 8-of-13 for 116 passing yards and a touchdown. Johnson led Coosa Christian in rushing yards with 64. He also added two rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown.
Nadarious Morgan led the Panthers in rushing with 185 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Boughton threw for 126 yards for the Panthers.
