The transfer window is shut, and the dust is beginning to settle on Alabama’s offseason acquisitions.
While the Crimson Tide can’t lose any more players to the transfer portal, it can still recruit players who already entered before the Jan. 16 deadline. There’s still some room to fill out depth at a few positions. But, for the most part, the majority of Alabama’s portal business seems to be handled.
Alabama lost 21 players to the portal while bringing in 18 scholarship transfers into the program. The Tide’s biggest overhaul has come in the trenches, as it added six offensive linemen and five defensive line/edge players. Former Virginia Tech linebacker Caleb Woodson was brought in to shore up the middle of the defense, while former N.C. State receiver Noah Rogers adds another electric option to the receiving corps. Alabama also revamped its specialists unit with the additions of kicker Lorcan Quinn (Marshall), punter Adam Watford (North Alabama) and long snapper Ethan Strangle (Syracuse).
As for departing transfers, Alabama lost six players who started at least one game last season, including offensive lineman Wilkin Formby, receiver Isaiah Horton, edge rushers Jordan Renaud and Qua Russaw, defensive lineman James Smith and running back Richard Young.
Here’s a position-by-position breakdown of Alabama’s roster as well as an assessment of how well the Tide plugged its holes at each spot.
