As the spring seasons nears Alabama will need to retool its wide receiver room especially after losing its go to option Germie Bernard.
Bernard was far and away the most consistent pass catcher for the Crimson Tide in 2025 reeling in a team leading 64 receptions, 862 yards and was second with seven touchdowns. Not to mention Alabama also lost five wide receivers to the transfer portal making things all the more urgent to develop/implement the next group of guys.
But Bernard gave his own thoughts of who will be the next young receivers to step up in 2026 when speaking at the 2026 NFL Combine.
“We got a couple young guys but I think Rico Scott and Lotzier Brooks, Bernard said. “You guys will see those guys have a ton of potential. I think they’re gonna do really well especially under the system. But Ryan Grubb makes sure he’s able to get the ball in the guys hands that can make plays and each of those guys can make plays.”
Lotzier Brooks returns to Alabama following an impressive true freshman campaign where he worked himself into a consistent role. The 5-foot-9 speedster recorded 32 catches for 441 yards and two touchdowns while proving to be a viable big play option for the offense down the stretch.
His best performance came in the first round of College Football Playoff against Oklahoma where he caught five passes for 79 yards and two touchdowns as he helped Alabama erase a 17 point deficit on the road.
Simultaneously, redshirt sophomore Rico Scott appeared to have carved out a role earlier in the season which ultimately tailed off. After seeing early action against Florida State and Louisiana-Monroe, Scott finished the season with 11 receptions for 98 yards and two touchdowns.
The four-star recruit out of Pennsylvania has been in the program for two seasons and may finally see his first true crack at playing time this fall. Scott has been heralded as one of the fastest players on the team while also playing with great physicality at the position making him another solid option down the field.
Earlier in the offseason, Scott entered the NCAA transfer portal to explore other options but ultimately withdrew his name one day later to return to Alabama.
Alabama also saw the return of Ryan Williams who will be looking to rebound following a mediocre sophomore season. The program also added some experience from the transfer portal by landing a commitment from former NC State wide receiver Noah Rogers.
Given how things shook out for the Crimson Tide run game in 2025, Grubb’s offense could use all the options it can at wide receiver to move the ball.
