Josh Ford is impressing the Alabama coaching staff and his Crimson Tide teammates this spring.
Ford is a former Oklahoma State tight end, and he looks to be fitting right in after transferring to Alabama. The 6-foot-6, 267-pounder is flashing an impressive level of physicality this spring.
“Josh is a guy that brings a demeanor,” Kalen DeBoer said. “We just did our shoutouts… Bray Hubbard shouted him out and talked about his demeanor and him coming across on blocks and coming up the field on blocks. He’s got a full head of steam coming at you, and he ain’t really scared of anyone. So, it’s really really good to see, probably one of the biggest claps in the shoutouts was for Josh. That’s something you can see even when you’re not around the guys all the time, someone behind the scenes that seems to have the guys rallying around him and appreciate what he’s bringing.”
One of the reasons Alabama brought Ford in was to help improve its rushing attack. What they saw from him as a blocker on film stood out.
“We bring in a Josh Ford to add a little more strength and demeanor in the run blocking,” DeBoer recently said during an interview with Josh Pate. “I think that can help that whole group out. I like that.”
While Ford’s ability to block has been applauded this spring, his ability to be an effective target in the pass game should not be overlooked. He is an athletic big target.
Ford pulled in two touchdowns on 13 receptions while playing in 16 games as a member of the Oklahoma State football team. 12 of those games came during his freshman season. He also started in six games as a true freshman.
It is easy to see why Josh Ford was able to get on the field early at Oklahoma State.
The 6-foot-6, 265-pounder has the traits Alabama continues to go after at tight end.
