The big mistake Georgia made while recruiting Terrion Arnold: “I really wanted to go to Georgia”

Alabama defensive back Terrion Arnold (3) celebrates against Texas A&M at Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, AL on Saturday, Oct 8, 2022.

Terrion Arnold once wanted to go to Georgia when he was one of the best defensive back prospects in the 2021 recruiting class.

Arnold, who is a native of Tallahassee, Florida, had his fair share of choices as a top prospect. He ultimately chose the Crimson Tide and went on to become a first-round NFL Draft pick. Georgia blew its shot at landing Arnold towards the end of his recruitment before Arnold made what he calls the best decision of his life.

“During the recruiting process, ultimately, I wanted to go to Florida State, wanted to commit and do all of that,” Arnold said during an interview with Ari Meirov. “Then I went to Georgia, I fell in love with Georgia. I wanted to go to Georgia. I really wanted to go to Georgia. But at the end of like my recruitment, they made like this power point of me, all the DBs they had leaving and then all of Alabama DBs… he was like we don’t have no guys, but this is what Alabama has. I’m not saying you are not going to be able to play but look at all this competition. I was like competition breed excellence. That kind of turned me off.”

The Detroit Lions selected Arnold with the 24th overall pick after he played three seasons at Alabama. He finished his time in Tuscaloosa with 108 tackles, 20 pass deflections and six interceptions.

Arnold will enter his third season in the NFL this year.
