Blake Sims said he called Nick Saban after his first day as a college football coach.

Sims started at quarterback for Saban during the 2014-2015 college football season at Alabama. He threw for 3,487 yards and 28 touchdowns during his solo season as the Crimson Tide’s starting quarterback. Sims decided to go into coaching after his football career wrapped up, and his first college coaching job was at West Alabama as the Tigers’ wide receiver coach.

The former Alabama quarterback said he knew Saban deserved an apology from day one of being with the Tigers.

“My first day at West Alabama, I called coach Saban, and I was like, I’m sorry for everything I put you through,” Sims said on “The Dynasty Podcast.” “These kids is driving me crazy. I have a gray hair in my chin. I’m like, I’m sorry, man. He’s just laughing, and he’s just like, see, you serve your head coach, serve your offensive coordinator, and make his job easier. And I’m like, all right. And he just hung up. He don’t say bye.”

Sims now works with quarterbacks as an assistant coach at Holmes Community College in Georgia.
