The Alabama Crimson Tide were able to bounce back in the second half against Kentucky following an underwhelming start on the offensive side of the football.
Alabama scored just six offensive points on two field goals in the first half of Saturday’s win. Sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell appeared to be rattled during the early stages of the contest, but Russell and the rest of the unit as a whole were able to bounce back and explode for 32 unanswered points in the second half.
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer recently took a moment to comment on the Tide’s slow start last weekend, as DeBoer claims the team has emphasized the importance of starting fast moving forward.
“We’re going to dig a little deeper,” DeBoer said. “I think our team truly believes and one of the things we talk about is as the game goes on, we will continue to get better. We want to be great going in. As our coaches get more and more information and our players continue as we have more film each and every week of our opponent, I think they will be even more comfortable and you’ll see even faster starts from our guys playing fast, knowing what to expect from their opponent. I’m looking forward to the next steps we take this week, really challenging our guys to come out, especially in Bryant-Denny Stadium and make some plays right away. Play confident. Play fast.”
Alabama’s offense looked like an entirely different unit in the second half against the Wildcats. Russell and the Tide have now gotten off to a slow offensive start in back-to-back weeks to begin the year, and DeBoer’s message to the unit as a whole is clear following his comments on Wednesday.
