Nick Saban reaches out to Jalen Hurts after serious health diagnosis

Nick Saban and Jalen Hurts celebrate 2017 CFP Semifinal victory over Clemson in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

Nick Saban told reporters Monday he texted Jalen Hurts after news broke that the quarterback would miss the rest of the 2026-2027 NFL season after doctors discovered blood clots in the quarterback’s lungs.

“I text him,” Saban said. “He sent Miss Terry the prettiest flowers when we had our documentary premiere. Told him my thoughts and prayers are with him for a speedy recovery.”

Hurts played for Saban for three seasons before transferring to Oklahoma after graduating from the University of Alabama. Saban recently highlighted Hurts at the red carpet premiere of ESPN’s ‘SABAN.’

Hurts’ agent Nicole Lynn released a statement following Hurts’ diagnosis, and she said the quarterback is expected to make a full recovery.
