Alabama took the practice field Tuesday in continuation of its prep for Tennessee this weekend. The Crimson Tide practiced in sunny, 75-degree weather conditions on day two of game week. TDAM contributor Ivan White and yours truly with all observations.
Notes from Tuesday’s practice
- Center Ryan Kelly (concussion) remains in a non-contact jersey. He was at practice, but did not participate for a second straight day. Sophomore J.C. Hassenauer was in his place.
- Freshman quarterback Blake Barnett returned to practice, after missing last week (medical issues). He looked comfortable tossing passes to wide receivers and executed hand-offs on the scout team.
- Outside linebacker Jamey Mosley was wearing a No. 11 jersey once again, representing Tennessee signal-caller Joshua Dobbs. Mosley, 6-foot-5, 221 pounds, played quarterback at Theodore High School in Mobile, Ala.
- Senior running back Kenyan Drake (thigh bruise) was in full stride with the backs in position drills.
- Freshman running back Xavian Marks was back in his usual No. 31 jersey, but working with receivers.
- Quarterback David Cornwell was giving Alabama’s first-team nickel defense a look on the scout team.
- Wide receivers Derek Kief and Deionte Thompson both wore No. 3 jerseys, representing Vols wide out Josh Malone. Malone has caught 17 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown this season.
- NFL scouts from the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins viewed practice from the sidelines.
