Why Florida State QB Thomas Castellanos will challenge Alabama

Kane Wommack and his defensive brass believe they are preparing for a big challenge this week with Thomas Castellanos set to start for Florida State.

Castellanos brings a unique skill set to the table. While considered undersized, Castellanos has shown his ability to be dynamic both as a passer and a runner throughout his collegiate career.

The signal caller passed for 3,689 total yards, rushed for 1,427 yards, and was responsible for 48 total touchdowns in 26 career games during his time at Boston College. This amount of production combined with his talent is why Alabama’s second-year defensive coordinator views the Florida State quarterback as one of the biggest challenges he and his staff have had to prepare for.

“He’s hard to get down,” Wommack told reporters on Monday. “He’s a very shifty player. He can run, he’s elusive in the pocket. … We’ll have our work cut out for us. It’ll be as challenging as we’ve had as far as creating negative plays on the quarterback.”

It’ll be interesting to see what measures Wommack and Alabama’s defense take in efforts of corralling Castellanos and containing the Seminoles’ offensive attack this Saturday on the road inside of Doak Campbell Stadium.
