The Alabama Crimson Tide will host the South Carolina Gamecocks at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday night.
The Tide will look to build upon an excellent offensive showing against FSU last weekend. Sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell had the best game of his young career against the Seminoles on Saturday, and a handful of rising offensive stars were able to make an impact as well.
Freshman running back EJ Crowell was extremely impressive last weekend, as the rising star was able to hurdle an FSU defender on two separate occasions in the win. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer took a moment to comment on Crowell’s hurdles, as DeBoer claims his athleticism could continue to emerge as a dangerous weapon moving forward.
“The number one thing, obviously there’s a safety piece to it. “DeBoer said. “But the number one thing is, and I showed the team this, the ball a lot of times comes away from the body. So you lose your protection, you’re trying to keep balance so you probably can land and even run from there. We just got to be smart when we’re in those spots. But some guys I’ve coached for many years, some guys have a really good knack of it and can turn it into a weapon. A couple of these guys have done a nice job with that.”
Crowell recorded 65 total yards and one touchdown during the Tide’s 50-36 win over the Seminoles last weekend. The freshman’s potential has been on full display over the first three weeks of the regular season, and Crowell may very well begin hurdling on a consistent basis considering his success against FSU.
