Why transfer wide receiver is still getting limited snaps for Alabama

Alabama’s wide receiver corps is expecting a major reinforcement against LSU next weekend.

Ryan Coleman-Williams will likely return from injury on the road against the Tigers after suffering a knee injury and a concussion during Alabama’s loss to Georgia. The route runner will prove to be a massive addition to the Tide’s offense considering the immense struggles from the unit over the last three weeks.

However, Crimson Tide fans and analysts expected transfer wide receiver Noah Rogers to play a much larger role while Coleman-Williams has been out. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer took a moment to comment on Rogers’ playing time earlier today.

“Noah’s done a really good job coming along in the practices, and I think a lot of it is just the other guys that are also, or have taken steps forward throughout the course of the season, and Rico showed up in a big way this last weekend, and he’s been pretty consistent, both as a receiver and a blocker,” DeBoer said. “I think also just personnel groupings and things like that with what we’ve done with more tight ends. There’s less reps for the wide receivers. And so we really think highly of Noah. He’s a really good football player, and we wanna find ways to incorporate him into the offense on a higher level with more opportunities, but that always means that you’re taking someone else off the field as well.”

Rogers has 55 yards on just three total receptions to begin his tenure in Tuscaloosa this season. The former NC State star suffered a lower-body injury which left him sidelined to begin the year, but Rogers has flashed major potential since his return and may very well see an increase in targets over the final month of the season moving forward.
