The Alabama football head coach has made it known that he wants Kendall Sheffield back, but even in his desires, the status of the five-star cornerback remains uncertain. Sheffield, a native of Missouri City, Texas, has missed three days of practice since the team scrimmaged on last week.
A source confirmed to Touchdown Alabama Magazine that the redshirt freshman voluntarily left the University of Alabama on Saturday night. He’s been viewed as one of the guys that could see solid playing time in the Crimson Tide’s nickel and dime packages, but according to Stan Griffin of Crimson Magazine, Saban said “we’re (Alabama) gonna’ work hard to do the best we can with the players that we have, and try to develop those players.” The door has been left open for Sheffield if he wants to return; however, the question is will he choose to return to Tuscaloosa?
Alabama has had six players to request a transfer throughout the offseason, including defensive backs Shawn Burgess-Becker (Central Florida) and Maurice Smith (Georgia). Is Sheffield the next in line? Only time will tell, but for now, he has not been spotted on campus since last week.
