Four-star wide receiver prepared to contribute at Alabama next season

No one from Alabama’s 2017 class of receivers takes a back seat, especially after watching the trio of Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III and Devonta Smith record multiple plays last season.

While Ruggs led the group in touchdowns (six) and Smith brought in clutch receptions, the Crimson Tide had another weapon on the bench.

Hailing from Lewisville, Texas, Tyrell Shavers did not see any action in 2017 and decided to redshirt. He possesses the most physicality of the four wide outs, standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 209 pounds. The unanimous four-star was one of the nation’s elite prospects and was listed at No. 133 in the ESPN 300 recruiting network.

Before arriving at the University of Alabama as a January 2017 enrollee, Shavers was a monster at Lewisville High School. He collected 1,200 receiving yards with 20 touchdowns on 64 catches, including 37 receptions for 803 yards and 13 scores during his junior year in 2015.

Per different players and others around the program, Shavers’ potential rivals that of former Tide standout and current Atlanta Falcons receiver, Julio Jones.

Of course, he has a long way to go before reaching that status; however, the tools are there for Shavers to be special in Tuscaloosa.

He valued Nick Saban’s coaching staff enough to choose Alabama over Florida State, Georgia, Auburn, Texas and Texas A&M, and now fans would like to see what he’s all about.
