COVID-19 has been on the minds of everyone on the planet with the virus dictating every single person’s move or action when they leave the safety of their homes.

For something that may strike fear into someone who hears that they have tested positive, Alabama head coach is approaching the situation with a smile.

During his previously scheduled Wednesday press conference, the 68-year-old was able to crack a few light jokes and smile through the situation. Saban had tested positive for COVID-19 mid-day on Wednesday and immediately left the facility and began to self-quarantine while allowing offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian to handle all in-person preparations.

Despite receiving the news of the positive test, Saban told the roughly 100 members of the media present on the zoom call that he still feels fine.

“I feel fine, I’m not really concerned about my health, you never know,” Saban said. “I feel like, when we’re in our own personal bubbles here, everyone is in a much safer place. As soon as you travel you’re in a much more vulnerable space.”

Alabama had just returned back to Tuscaloosa from a trip to Oxford, MS, for its game against Ole Miss who recently had a COVID breakout hit its football team as well.

“I personally think I did a really good job of trying to manage my personal space,” Saban said during his press conference. “You have to respect this disease and the spread of this disease. Adhere to protocol of what people are informing us to do.”

Even with Saban not being overly concerned with his own health, he did share his concerns over possibly transmitting the virus to his immediate family.

“I have a big concern for my own personal family,” Saban said. “That’s the only people I’ve been around other than the coaches and players, I’m pretty isolated in what I do. I’m hoping none of them have a problem with this.”

If Saban continues to show signs of being asymptomatic he will be able to participate in daily testing to accurately evaluate his situation.
