Jackson 5 star RB Ezavier Crowell breaks down finalist ahead of commitment date, official visits

Ezavier “EJ” Crowell will continue to garner a lot of buzz over the next few weeks with a commitment date locked in. 

Crowell has trimmed his recruitment down to six programs ahead of a June 26 commitment date.

The Jackson High School product will choose between Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Texas. 

The Crimson Tide have been a consistent part of Crowell’s recruitment. Several aspects of the Alabama football program stand out to the talented back. 

“The atmosphere is electric,” Crowell told Touchdown Alabama. “You can feel the tradition the moment you step on campus. The fans, the facilities, the intensity from the coaching staff. Everything just screams championship culture. Everyone there is about business, and you can tell why they have had so much success.”

Alabama’s head coach Kalen DeBoer has worked to build a relationship with Crowell. 

“He’s got a clear vision for the program and the offense,” said Crowell. “He really broke down how they would utilize my skill set, spreading the field, using tempo, letting playmakers make plays in space. I could definitely see myself thriving in that system and learning a lot under him.”

Alabama will get Crowell back on campus for an official visit the weekend before he announces his commitment. Auburn’s head coach Hugh Freeze has also done an impressive job getting Auburn in a good position with the five-star. 

“I had the opportunity to speak with Coach Freeze, and he was very detailed and upfront about my potential role in their offense,” said Crowell. “Coach Freeze’s track record with quarterbacks and offensive playmakers is strong, and I feel like I could come in and make an impact early in that system.”

Texas’ involvement in Crowell’s recruitment continues to trend in a good direction after Chad Scott took up the reigns for the Longhorns when Tashard Choice departed from the program.

“Texas is building something special,” Crowell said. “Coach Sark has that offense humming and with the talent they have recruited, it is easy to picture myself making big-time plays in that environment. Austin, Texas has great energy too. It is a big-time football town, and they are hungry to win.”

The Longhorns will get the five-star on campus for an official visit on the weekend of June 6. 

Florida State’s head coach Mike Norvell has made an impression on the Jackson product.

“He is super passionate and detailed,” said Crowell. “He showed me how they use versatility in their offense, guys lining up all over the field, playing fast and attacking defenses. I think my skill set fits perfectly with what they are trying to do.”

Florida made a significant move for the five-star during a visit in March when they got him on campus after offering him in January. 

“When I went down, it was just coach Napier talking about I could come there and just be the next Gator to make things pop,” Crowell previously told Touchdown Alabama. “Coach (Jabbar) Juluke, I just love his personality, the things he does with his backs and everything else.”

Crowell has an official visit planned with the University of Georgia this weekend. Kirby Smart and his staff have done a good job helping Crowell feel a family environment is at Georgia.

“Georgia’s atmosphere is different,” said Crowell. “It is intense but family-oriented. My first visit was eye-opening. From the moment I walked in the coaches, players, and even fans made me feel like I was already a part of something. The facilities are elite, and you can feel the standard they hold everyone to.”

A lot of eyes will continue be on Crowell until he make a decision.
