The New Orleans Saints are releasing rookie punter James Burnip, according to Aaron Wilson on X.

The Alabama football product went undrafted in 2025 before signing with the Saints after the draft.

Former South Carolina punter Kai Kroger won the punter job for the Saints after competing with Burnip throughout camp and the preseason. In the Saints’ latest preseason game, Kroger has been the holder for kicker Blake Grupe this preseason, indicating that Kroger was put with the first group and Burnip with the second.

The NFL season is set to begin in less than two weeks.
