Alabama football’s starting quarterback Ty Simpson put together the best performance of his career against Louisiana-Monroe in a 73-0 win on Saturday.
Simpson was 17-of-17 with three passing touchdowns and one rushing score. He threw for 226 passing yards and finished the game with a 269.9 passer rating. The former five-star was a better decision-maker in Grubb’s eyes.
“I thought he was extremely decisive,” Simpson said. “He was very dialed on his reads. He didn’t pass on open players. I thought he played great. I thought he was really, really into the game plan all week, and I was really hopeful that he was going to play very, very well.”
Kalen DeBoer highlighted Simpson after the win during his post-game press conference. He shared he felt the quarterback played like the game was slowing down for him against the Warhawks.
“I just thought that the game was slower for him,” DeBoer said. “He was just able to go through progressions. That first week to second week, that’s what you needed to see. That’s what you really needed to see out of Ty, and I’m proud of how he went to work. There’s some times when he scrambled this week where it just felt like he had it under control. He just saw the field, knew where guys were at, understood the situation, and then made the throw.”
Simpson now looks to carry this confidence into Saturday’s game against Wisconsin.
