Ty Simpson feels a group of Missouri defenders jumped out on film.
Simpson and the Crimson Tide are gearing up to face an undefeated Mizzou team. The Tigers’ defense is allowing 16.8 points per contest and are giving up only 198 yards per game, which ranks them No. 1 in the country in the category.
Alabama’s starting signal caller is evaluating this Missouri offense closely and naturally his eyes are gravitating to the Tigers’ edge rushers, who will be getting after him and the defensive backs, who will be looking to stop his wide receivers from getting the ball.
“No. 9 Zion Young is really, really good,” Simpson said. “Damon Wilson is really, really good. Those are two edge guys that are very long, very physical, very fast. They cause problems in the run game and the pass game, rushing upfield. No. 2 Toriano Pride is a good player at DB. In their nickel, No. 13 (Daylan Carnell) is very, very physical, can cover, can fit the box. They’re just all around a good defense.”
Young and Wilson have 5.5 sacks this season combined. Carnell has one interception on the season.
Similar to Simpson, Missouri is doing its homework to stop him and the Alabama offense. Eli Drinkwitz gave his thoughts on Simpson during a recent press conference.
“I think, obviously the Georgia game, and Vandy was extremely well done on their third down plan,” Drinkwitz told reporters Tuesday. “The quarterback makes very good decisions, not easily deceived with disguise, unaffected by pressure, ability to escape. I think those three things make it really difficult to try to game plan a quarterback on third down. You kinda have to pick your poison. Like, if we play zone, he’s gonna pick us apart. If we blitz, he’s gonna stand in there and identify the one-on-one matchup and take it. think that’s what they’ve been really good at. I’m pretty confident he had three scrambles with his feet against Georgia, the first two, he stared down the barrel of some blitzes and delivered. He’s really good.”
Simpson and the Missouri defense will get after one another Saturday at 11 a.m. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
