Alabama football’s wide receiver coach JaMarcus Shephard is moving on to Oregon State, but he is not leaving Alabama just yet.
Shephard will be introduced as the Beavers’ next head coach on Tuesday, but he wants to stick around Alabama as much as he can as he makes the transition, according to Kalen DeBoer.
“He really wants to be a part of everything that we do throughout,” DeBoer said. “There’s a couple things here right now early in the week that he’s gotta take part in as far as obligations with just kind of getting things started there with his opportunity at Oregon State, which we’re super excited for.”
DeBoer shared Alabama celebrated Shephard receiving this opportunity.
“We celebrated it actually on Friday morning,” DeBoer said. “He’s a guy that pours everything into this program, and he’s poured everything into me. It’s something that our players know and feel, known Shep since really 2014, and you can’t help but be excited for someone who gets to run their own program. We did a quick little celebration for him before we got into meetings on Friday. He’s wanting be a part of it as much as he can.”
Shephard is reportedly excepted to bring a trio of Alabama staff members to Oregon State with him. Alabama football is expected to lose Eron Hodges, Mitch Dahlen and Torrey Gill to Oregon State with Shephard accepting the head coaching job.
