College football is preparing to defend against blind transferring.
Multiple reports have surfaced after the NCAA Football Oversight Committee met and discussed blind transferring, which is when a player unenrolls at one school and enrolls at another outside of the one January transfer portal window.
The NCAA has proposed stiff penalties for teams who add players outside of the portal window. These penalties include prohibiting the head coach from all football (recruiting and on-field coaching) and administrative duties through six games; a fine of 20 percent of a school’s football budget; and requiring a school to reduce the number of roster spots by five for the next season, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger.
Blind transfers are likely to happen after teams conclude spring practice, since the spring portal window that was in place last year no longer exists.
