The Miami Dolphins continued to clear house on the first day of NFL free agency. After announcing its intention to part ways with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, Miami is now shipping out defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick.
Miami is trading Fitzpatrick to the New York Jets in exchange for a seven round pick from the Los Angeles Chargers according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Fitzpatrick is also set to sign a three-year $40 million extension with New York.
Fitzpatrick was originally drafted by Miami in 2018 but was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers partway through his second season which is where his career took off. While in Pittsburgh, Fitzpatrick was named to five Pro Bowls and recorded 21 career interceptions. The Dolphins would reacquire Fitzpatrick in a trade last offseason.
Fitzpatrick will now join a Jets secondary in desperate need to playmaking after not recording a single interception in 2025. He will also be joining another former Alabama defensive back, Malachi Moore, in the secondary as well.
