The ink has dried on Nick Saban’s three-year extension to remain at the University of Alabama.
According to the Board of Trustees, his new contract was approved Monday. His extension goes through the 2028 season.

The agreement in June was for Saban’s base salary to be at $275,000 and his talent fee at $8.425 million.
His base salary will remain the same, but his talent fee will increase by $400,000 a year.
Saban will make $11.5 million during the final year of his contract, and he’ll also get an $800,000 completion benefit each year through 2025 upon finishing each season.
Since becoming the Crimson Tide’s head coach in 2007, the 69-year old has produced thirteen 10-win seasons. He has guided the program to seven Southeastern Conference Championships and six national championships. Saban has signed numerous top-ranked recruiting classes, including his best class ever for 2021.
Each freshmen class has won one national championship.
In a press release from Alabama athletics in June, Saban stated his gratitude toward the University for the contract.
“Terry and I are pleased and happy to sign another contract extension that will keep us in Tuscaloosa through the end of our career,” he said. “Our family calls Tuscaloosa and the state of Alabama home, it’s a place where our roots now run deep. This agreement gives us the chance to continue to impact the lives of the young men and their families who choose to play football and get an education at Alabama. We want to thank the Board of Trustees, Chancellor St. John, President Bell, Director of Athletics Greg Byrne, our athletics administration, the football staff and the whole University community for their support.”
According to Steve Berkowitz of USA TODAY Sports, Saban’s contract is set up for eight years, $84.8 million.
He will make $9.5 million for the 2021-22 contract year.
Including scheduled contract-year completion payments, this will be Saban’s recurring basic pay from school (8 years, $84.8 million):
2021-22 contract year: $9.5 million.
22-23: $9.9M
23-24: $10.3M
24-25: $10.7M
25-26: $11.1M
26-27: $10.7M
27-28: $11.1M
28-29: $11.5M https://t.co/w2Wad432XQ— Steve Berkowitz (@ByBerkowitz) August 2, 2021
This season, Saban is in pursuit of his eighth national title. He is also trying to win back-to-back championships for the first time since the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Should he stay for the $11.5 million pay base in 2028, Saban would be 76 years old.
