One Alabama defender battled through a lingering injury in week eight against Tennessee.
Starting safety Keon Sabb will be sidelined with a lower-body injury that will cause him to be “down for a while”, according to Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer. Former Alabama quarterback and ESPN analyst Greg McElroy spoke this morning on his show about Sabb’s injury and his willingness to battle through injury against the Volunteers.
“Do you realize that Keon Sabb played three quarters of the game with a broken foot? A broken foot, ladies and gentlemen. And he did it because he loves his team. He didn’t have to. The guy could’ve had season-ending surgery last week, opted to say, ‘I’m gonna keep playing.’ He’s got a foot injury and he broke it on the first series. So when he ran down the field and broke up that play by Squirrel White down the sideline … do you realize he chased him down with a broken foot? You know how absurd that is?”
While many fans will suggest that this Alabama team lacks leadership and determination to win, Sabb seems to have exhibited both in Alabama’s Week 8 loss.
There is no timetable for Sabb’s return at this time. The Michigan transfer has started in the first seven games of the season. He has recorded 39 tackles, four pass deflections, and two interceptions.
His absence will be one that affects Alabama’s defense in a big way. He is the most experienced and proven safety on Alabama’s roster aside from graduate senior Malachi Moore.
