Alabama and Tennessee set to wear home jerseys in 2026 and 2027 meetings

Alabama defensive back Dijon Lee Jr. (5) intercepts a Tennessee pass on a 2-point conversion during a college football game at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Oct. 18, 2025.

Both Alabama and Tennessee football will wear home jerseys for the games between the two rivals in 2026 and 2027, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

The Third Saturday in October is one of the biggest rivalry games in college football, and the two teams are reverting back to something they did decades ago.

The last time Alabama and Tennessee wore home jerseys in the same game was 1970. Alabama wore crimson jerseys, and Tennessee sported jerseys that were orange.

It was a longstanding tradition up until that point, but that tradition is perhaps being revived.

According to Thamel, Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, Tennessee athletic director Danny White, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel and the SEC office met and came to this agreement.

Alabama travels to Knoxville on Oct. 17. The Crimson Tide have lost to the Vols in each of their last two appearances in Knoxville.
