Alabama football’s wolf linebacker, Yhonzae Pierre is settling in as a leader for the Crimson Tide as he eyes taking the next step in his development on the field.
Pierre stood out on defense for Alabama in 2025 when he finished the year with 52 total tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks. The Alabama native enjoyed more playing time once Qua Russaw went down with an injury, and he took full advantage of his expanded role, starting in 12 games.
The former five-star is known for his ability to get to the quarterback, and he credits his breakout season to the opportunities presented to him to get after the passer.
“Just the opportunities to get the rush and then the opportunity to be on the field as a starter as it came,” said Pierre while talking to Christian Miller and Corey Miller on “The Millers’ Edge.” “It’s just big shoes I had to fill. But as my coach prepared me with the certain rushes we had for certain schemes and whatnot, it was just the practice and the practice I put in for the rush, and it just came all together as (I) was getting more reps at it.”

Pierre is expected to be a great pass rusher in 2026, but he feels being strong at the point of attack against the run is what will make him one of the best defenders in college football this fall.
“Just setting the edge and being firm when it comes to the run game, I say with certain techniques and hand placement,” Pierre said. “And I’ll say just being more dominant on the field all throughout the game.”
After switching from No. 42 to No. 0, Pierre enters spring football with some high expectations as a veteran presence on the Crimson Tide’s defense.
