Former Tide Star, Tyrone Prothro, to Join Coaching Staff at Spanish Fort H.S.

Marvin Gentry - USA TODAY

One of the most heralded receivers of recent Alabama Football history, Tyrone Prothro made his name known to the world with this insane behind the back catch:

Amazing Football Catch by Alabama's Tyrone Prothro

Unfortunately, College Football would be the peak of his athletic career as a nasty leg injury in 2005 forced him to retire early. He finished his career a legend, despite making just 58 catches for 863 yards. 12 years later, Prothro is now getting a chance to resume that football career in a new light.

It was announced today that he would be taking over as the receivers coach for Spanish Fort High School’s football team, and serve as an assistant coach for their basketball team as well.

The Spanish Fort Toros are a powerhouse high school football program. They were winners of the 5A state championship in 2010, 2012, and 2013. While Prothro is sure to want to return to Bryant-Denny in some capacity, this is a great opportunity to get his foot in the door.

Only time will tell as to what kind of coach he will be.
