This offseason started with conversations involving Ohio State’s Braxton Miller and Notre Dame’s Everett Golson in transfer rumors. The statements on Golson proved true, as he is now at Florida State and looks to replace Jameis Winston. Oregon State’s wide receiver Richard Mullaney is the latest name that has surfaced. He has obtained his degree and will transfer from the program. Mullaney is in Tuscaloosa this week visiting Alabama.

Mullaney, who stands at 6-foot-3, 209 pounds, is a fifth-year senior. He would be eligible to play, if Alabama was to bring him in. He totaled 788 yards on 52 catches in 2013, but missed half of last season because of an elbow injury. Mullaney has 83 receptions for 1,160 yards and five touchdowns in his career with the Beavers. Alabama lost its three star receivers to the National Football League in Amari Cooper, Christion Jones and DeAndrew White.

Sophomores Robert Foster and ArDarius Stewart both emerged in spring practice, however, the Crimson Tide could use more seasoned players. The timetable on Cam Sims’s (knee) return is uncertain, and despite the potential of Calvin Ridley, he is only a true freshman. Tight end O.J. Howard had a productive spring, and receivers Raheem Falkins and Derek Kief both look to be more involved.

Mullaney can operate as a deep threat or a slot receiver. He has sure hands and deceptive speed. An experienced receiver would be crucial for Alabama with having a first-year starting quarterback this fall.
