Coach Nick Saban updates status on Alabama quarterback Blake Barnett

Marvin Gentry - USA TODAY Sports

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.| Coach Nick Saban took the podium Wednesday night for his final game week presser, heading into Alabama’s homecoming match-up against Kentucky on Saturday. Prior to him speaking, a report was broken (AL.com) on freshman quarterback Blake Barnett leaving the team. After stating his pleasure with the team’s effort in practice, Saban addressed the issue concerning Barnett’s future at Tuscaloosa.

He opened with saying that Barnett did talk to him, before the Tide hit the practice field.

“Blake is a fine young man,” Saban said. “He’s done a great job in this program and we would love to see him be a part of the program in the future, but we also want him to do what’s best for him.”

When it comes his knowledge on Barnett leaving, Saban told the press: “I don’t have a final decision on that. Nobody has told me that. You may know more about that I do, so I can’t make any more comments.”

Barnett earned the start against Southern California in week one, but was not able to fend off true freshman Jalen Hurts. The former five-star recruit and California missed Wednesday’s practiced, adding more interest to a possible transfer. Rumors are stirring about him transferring to USC, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
