Trevon Diggs closing in on 69-year-old NFL record for interceptions

Trevon Diggs (#7) celebrates interception for Cowboys in 2021 season
Ron Chenoy - USA Today Sports

Trevon Diggs has become one of the best NFL Draft moves by the Dallas Cowboys.

As a second-year cornerback, the University of Alabama alumnus has Dallas’ defense ranked third in the league for passer rating allowed (74.9), fourth in completion percentage allowed (59.6), and first in interceptions (23). Diggs is growing into being one of the best corners in the National Football League. He has ten interceptions, including one in nine of 13 regular-season matchups.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder had two picks versus Carolina on October 3. Dallas defeated the Panthers, 36-28, in the contest.

Nick Saban knew where Diggs would flourish in college, and he pulled the best out of him at Alabama. He was selected in the second round of the 2020 draft, but Diggs has the Cowboys at 10-4. A native of Maryland, the 2017 College Football Playoff National Champion defended two passes — including one interception in Sunday’s victory over the New York Giants.

He helped the Cowboys to a 21-6 win with his 10th pick of the year.

Diggs is in the NFL Defensive Player of the Year conversation; however, he’s also closing in on an NFL record.

He needs four interceptions to tie Nite Train Lane’s mark of 14 from 1952. Lane was the NFL’s first marquee defensive back, and his record has stood for 69 years. Lane displayed excellence for the Los Angeles Rams.

It would be great if Diggs could break the mark.
