Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer spoke with “The Next Round” following his round of golf at the Regions Tradition golf tournament and discussed Ryan Grubb’s transition to Alabama.
DeBoer touched on the impact Grubb and Nick Sheridan, who served as Alabama’s offensive coordinator in 2024, have had this offseason while working to improve Alabama’s offense for the 2025 season.
“Well, you got two top level quarterback coaches, coordinators and having them in the same room now which really has never happened,” DeBoer said. “Nick was the tight ends coach when Grubb was the quarterbacks coach and coordinator. So it’s been great having Nick bring the information to Ryan Grubb and tell him the why and the reasons why you did this or why we did that. Ryan just putting his stamp on it in his different way. He’s elite and he’s obviously been someone that I’ve had a lot of trust with really going to our first year in 2007. There’s an efficiency I think we’re operating with. And, you know, together, I think they’ve really pushed that quarterback room.”
Sheridan and Grubb both coached together at Washington in 2022 and 2023. The pair coached different positions in Seattle and had different coaching responsibilities than they have now in Tuscaloosa.
Sheridan will serve as Alabama’s co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the 2025 season. He is entering his second season as an assistant at Alabama. In 2024, Sheridan served as Alabama’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Grubb will serve as Alabama’s offensive coordinator in 2025. It will be Grubb’s first season as a play-caller in Tuscaloosa.
DeBoer and Grubb have a history of working together to create some of the more explosive offenses in college football. In 2023, Grubb played a key role in helping Washington reach the national championship game against Michigan. The Huskies had 10 players drafted. Seven of which were offensive players.
Grubb has a tendency to get the best out of his offensive weapons and players in the trenches. He and Sheridan will look to work together in Tuscaloosa to assemble one of the more explosive, well-rounded offenses in college football in 2025.
