UA Athletic Director reacts to President Trump’s executive order to ‘save college sports’

The University of Alabama’s Athletic Director Greg Byrne issued a statement after President Donald Trump signed an executive order aimed at stopping pay-to-play payments to student athletes from third parties.

Byrne shared the university’s support of the executive order in his statement.

“The University of Alabama applauds this executive order from President Trump to help ensure a long-term, sustainable model of intercollegiate athletics,” Byrne said in his statement. “We are proud of our broad-based athletic programs and strongly support the future regulatory and congressional action that will preserve these opportunities for student athletes.”

The changing landscape of collegiate athletics continues to bring about new challenges for leaders of the sport.
