Perhaps hidden in the midst of the star studded receiving room is tight end Josh Cuevas who has proven to be a key member of the Alabama offense so far this season.

Cuevas has proven to be a security blanket for quarterback Ty Simpson who raved about the tight end on Tuesday. During his media availability Simpson compared Cuevas’ ability to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and San Francisco 49ers’ George Kittle.

“He’s like a safety blanket,” Simpson said. “Not many tight ends can act like Travis Kelce and block like George Kittle.”

Cuevas joined the Crimson Tide two years ago when he transferred from Washington following head coach Kalen DeBoer to Tuscaloosa.

After serving in a reserve role, Cuevas has now claimed the starting role and through five games and reeled in 13 receptions for 126 yards and two touchdowns.

“We can use him in so many different ways,” Simpson said. “And then, us asking him to do the stuff that he does is incredible. The fact that guy came so far from an FCS school to Washington to here and is playing at an All-American level. That dude, he’s my guy. I thank him every day.”

Alabama will look to keep up the creativity on offense this weekend when it heads to Memorial Stadium to take on No. 14 Missouri.
