After another early exit from the playoffs, many believe its time for the Pittsburgh Steelers to initiate a massive reset.
Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd is one voice that isn’t afraid to share his opinion on what Pittsburgh should be doing with its future now that head coach Mike Tomlin is stepping away. During a segment on his daily show “The Herd”, Cowherd quickly rolled out what he believes would be best for Pittsburgh in the upcoming offseason and draft.
For starters, Cowherd believes the team should move star pass rusher TJ Watt for draft compensation, then use the picks acquired to move up for non-other than former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson.
“If you’re Pittsburgh with all these picks, my takeaway, you give out about six of them to get Ty Simpson in the first round,” Cowherd said. “Say what you want, it’s something. They have seven draft picks in the first four rounds. The Steelers have ammo. Go get Ty Simpson. you don’t have to move up 25 spots. Move up 10.”
Simpson recently declared for the NFL Draft after a stellar season with the Crimson Tide where he threw for 3,567 yards, 28 touchdowns while completing 64.5% of his passes. He also helped Alabama reach the SEC title game and the College Football Playoff where it defeated Oklahoma in the first round before losing to Indiana in the Rose Bowl.
If Pittsburgh were to go with Simpson, he would be just the second quarterback the team has taken in the first round this century with the previous two being Kenny Pickett (2022) and Ben Roethlisberger (2004).
