The AJ McCarron era is set to begin for the Birmingham Stallions. The former Alabama quarterback is set to make his head coaching debut with the organization Friday as the Stallions open its season against the Louisville Kings.
McCarron was announced as the head coach of the Stallions last December taking over for previous head coach Skip Holtz. Before transitioning into coaching in the UFL, McCarron had previously played in the league with the St. Louis Battlehawks.
“I hope we play with an intensity and grit nobody wants to match for 60 minutes,” McCarron said.
Before diving into coaching, McCarron played nine seasons in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals, Oakland Raiders and Houston Texans where he primarily served as a backup quarterback.
McCarron will always be remembered for his legendary career at Alabama where he helped the Crimson Tide win two national championships in 2011 and 2012 during the height of the Nick Saban dynasty.
The Stallions are slated to kickoff against the Kings at 7 pm CST on Fox.
