Competition is back for the University of Alabama football program, and Kalen DeBoer is all in on having the best players win out at each position.
Kalen DeBoer confirms injured Alabama OL is expected to be in rotation
Ryan Grubb, the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator, wasted no time in the opening week of spring practice to erase one competition off the board. He named redshirt freshman Jackson Lloyd as the team’s starter at left tackle.
Lloyd, a former five-star from Carmel, Calif., worked five games last season as a backup.
He logged 41 snaps at left tackle, including a season-high 21 versus Eastern Illinois at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The 6-foot-7, 317-pounder is an imposing presence, but DeBoer sent a warning to him after Friday’s scrimmage to maintain his focus.

“You better not get comfortable,” DeBoer said. “You better keep the pedal down because the next guys are coming.”
DeBoer highlighted the good things Lloyd is doing, yet he does not want the young tackle to become complacent. Alabama has Jayvin James and Michael Carroll as tackles too, especially with the Tide wanting to rotate at least four players at the position.
Grubb said Lloyd is ‘the guy,’ but we will see how he does in the fall.
