A group of Alabama football’s freshmen players has generated buzz throughout the spring and looks to be poised to make a lot of noise on A-Day.
The Crimson Tide will host its annual spring game, A-Day, on Saturday. The spring game will give Alabama football fans and media members their first official glimpse of Alabama’s 2026 squad. The scrimmage is scheduled to start at 1 p.m., and it will not be streamed live.
Here is a look at five Alabama freshmen to watch in-person on A-Day:
Cederian Morgan – Wide Receiver
Morgan was spotted making plays earlier in the spring practice while putting his dependable hands on display. His name has not been mentioned much in the Tide’s latest scrimmages, but he is still, for sure, a wide receiver Tide fans would want to put eyes on. At 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds, while wearing the No. 8, look out for Morgan to give some Tide fans a flashback of Julio Jones with his frame.

Trae’shawn Brown – Running Back
Brown may be one of the biggest surprises of the spring when it comes to the Tide’s freshmen. He was a late add to the Tide’s 2026 recruiting class, committing and signing with Alabama during the early signing period in December and choosing to enroll as an early enrollee. The running back earned praise from Kalen DeBoer after the Tide’s second scrimmage.
“The guy I thought had a nice week was Trae’shawn,” DeBoer said. “Showed it a little bit today in the scrimmage, but I thought throughout the week, there were some live sessions, short yards, goal line and things like that, that he showed some pop. He showed some instinctiveness on how to get that first down when it was third-and-2, fourth-and-1, whatever it might be. And it’s never prettiest, never perfect, because there’s a lot of dudes up on the line of scrimmage, but overall, I think he’s had some good progress here in the spring.”
Jireh Edwards – Defensive Back
Jireh Edwards for sure looks the part at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds. He was considered a complete safety prospect as a recruit at St. Frances Academy. He checked multiple boxes with the ability to make tackles in space, play inside the box and defend wide receivers in coverage from the slot for the Panthers. The Tide has him working closely with Keon Sabb and a limited Bray Hubbard this spring. It will be interesting to watch him attempt to carve out a role in a loaded defensive backfield.
Xavier Griffin – Linebacker
Griffin was considered one of the most versatile linebackers in the 2026 recruiting class. The Alabama native has appeared to start his days off with the Crimson Tide as an off-the-ball inside linebacker. This is interesting because he was initially recruited to play the wolf linebacker position with the potential to be off-the-ball at times. This remains a possibility, but it will be interesting to see where and how he plays on Saturday at 6-foot-3 and 222 pounds.

Jorden Edmonds – Cornerback
Edmonds had an interception in the Tide’s last scrimmage. However, he was also on the wrong end of some big plays made by receivers in the Tide’s first scrimmage, but that is the life of a cornerback. The position is defined by the ups and downs or ebbs and flows of the game. The biggest takeaway from seeing this is that Edmonds is likely to be in the rotation.
