Spring football returned to the University of Alabama on Friday, March 19.
Fans of the Crimson Tide are excited for this edition of athletes taking the field, as Nick Saban and the program look to repeat as national champions. With 15 practice sessions – including the A-Day Game – the staff writers for Touchdown Alabama Magazine will provide in-depth previews on marquee players.
We go to the offensive side of the football for this profile as we look at freshman offensive lineman, Tommy Brockermeyer
Tommy Brockermeyer
-Classification: Freshman
–Position: Offensive Line
-Hometown: Fort Worth, TX
-Height: 6-5
-Weight: 292 pounds
-Strengths: Mobility, Technique, Aggressiveness, Wide Frame, Hand Placement
-Weaknesses: Adjusting to uptick in competition
–Summary: Brockermeyer was an aggressive blocker who attempted to put someone on their back on every play at the high school level.
The Texas product plays under control with great balance and strength. He has a nastiness to his game that comes out a lot. This allowed him to make some impressive highlight blocks at All Saints Episcopal School.
At 6-foot-5 and 292 pounds, he has a wide frame that he could still add some weight to. His impressive size combined with his above-average technical skill made him one of the top offensive linemen in the 2021 recruiting class. His hand-placement and ability to bend made it difficult for defensive linemen to get the better of him.
Brockermeyer’s mobility is another strength of his. He displayed an ability to get to the second level and block down the field throughout his high school career.
Coming from a small private school in the lone star state, he has faced a major uptick in the competition since enrolling at the University of Alabama in January. This transition looks to be going pretty smooth, and he could work his way into Alabama’s offensive line rotation in year one.
