Jaheim Oatis looks like the next freshman to make an impact on Alabama’s defensive line.

He has committed to being in great shape to contribute, and the native Mississippian sees results. Oatis was listed at 370 pounds at 6-foot-5 on the Crimson Tide’s roster. Since then, he has dropped significant weight and announced his new weight on Twitter.

Oatis is now 357 pounds and wants to lose 17 more pounds.

If he enters fall camp at 340 pounds, Oatis will have the power, quickness, explosiveness, footwork, and leverage to be a force inside. Coach Nick Saban was impressed with the four-star defensive lineman in spring practice. DJ Dale and Jamil Burroughs are ahead of him at nose tackle, but one can expect Oatis to garner action in the fall. He is doing what he needs to show the coaching staff he’s serious about playing as a freshman. Alabama has had some elite defensive linemen come through the program, but Oatis has the potential to raise the bar. It will be entertaining to watch his growth in summer workouts.
