Former Alabama football quarterback, Greg McElroy feels the College Football Playoff committee sent a warning to teams with one loss or more by dropping the Crimson Tide six spots.
The Tide lost to No. 8 Oklahoma Saturday to drop to 8-2. The committee dropped Alabama football to No. 10 as a result, despite it having wins over four ranked teams. McElroy said this is something teams like Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Notre Dame and other one loss teams should monitor.
“For me, it’s my goodness, man, a close loss, minus three turnovers at home, you lose by two, you miss a field goal and you drop six spots,” McElroy said. “So the precedent now with what they just did to Alabama, if you’re Oregon, if you’re a team that messes around, if you’re Ole Miss, you better win out. I mean, you don’t want to take any chances because of six slots slide from the sixth spot or the seventh spot would have you out of the field. And the committee just did it to Bama, so they’ll do it to you.”
Alabama remains in control of its own destiny. It is win and you are in for the Tide. Unfortunately for Tide, it is unclear what the impact of a possible SEC Championship loss would be if Alabama were to make it to the game and get defeated.
