He was a second-round pick, but Jalen Hurts could get first-round money from the Eagles this offseason.

After leading Philadelphia to the Super Bowl in his third season, several NFL analysts want to see Hurts rewarded with the bag.

He took leaps of growth as a passer in 2022, finishing 10th in the league for passing yards (3,701) and totaling 22 passing touchdowns to six interceptions in the regular season. Hurts also had 760 rushing yards and 13 scores, pushing his total touchdowns to 35 in the regular season. He recorded eight touchdowns — including five rushing scores — in the postseason and delivered a legendary performance in Super Bowl LVII. Philadephia suffered a 35-38 loss to Kansas City; however, Hurts tallied 304 passing yards, 70 rushing yards, and four touchdowns. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City’s quarterback, opened his presser by stating how impressed he was with Hurts. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the beginning of Hurts’ contract extension is north of $45 million. It is only the starting point, so the Eagles brass could make Hurts wealthy. Herm Edwards, an NFL analyst, wants Philadelphia to give Hurts a ’10-year contract.’ Harry Douglass, a former NFL receiver, believes Hurts deserves top-tier money.

He finished 2022 as a finalist for NFL’s Most Valuable Player and Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year.

Hurts would enter the fourth year of his rookie deal next fall if the Eagles do not pay him the big money.

Philadelphia has something special, and it will be interesting to see how it restructures Hurts’ contract.
