Alabama head coach Nick Saban provided some good news regarding redshirt sophomore running back Trey Sanders during his Sunday Zoom call with reporters.

Saban shared that Sanders is getting close to being back to 100 percent after missing all of last season with injury.

“Trey Sanders I think is getting very close to being 100 percent,” Saban said. “The issue always with a player who has a significant injury like he had is how’s he going to respond when he actually starts having to play football and gets his and has to hit other people.

“That’s an unknown that we’ll just have to wait and see becasue we’ve only been in shorts and helmets so far so we’ve had very limited contact. But we’re pleased with his attitude. I see his burst in acceleration coming back and he’s been able to do it and repeat it on a day-to-day basis without issue.”

Sanders is another player on Alabama’s roster who has dealt with multiple injuries throughout his tenure in Tuscaloosa. The IMG Academy product suffered a season ending injury going into his freshman season in 2019.

In 2020 after appearing in four games, Sanders was in a car accident where he suffered multiple injuries which prematurely ended his season. Sanders tallied 134 yards on 30 carries in his appearances against Missouri, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Mississippi State.
